2 Norwich Free Academy Seniors Receive Leadership Awards

The honors were handed out by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.

From Norwich Free Academy: NFA seniors Serena Wu of Norwich and Alexander Jacobik of Preston have been chosen by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) to receive CABE’s Student Leadership Award.

Wu and Jacobick were nominated by Senior Class Principal Ross Sward and his student support team. Nominations are based upon willingness to take on challenges, capability to make difficult decisions, concern for others, ability to work with others, willingness to commit to a project, diplomacy, ability to understand issues clearly, and ability to honor a commitment.

Wu has made a difference in both the school and local community at all levels through her example of service leadership. From work with the elderly, with many groups on campus, and at the Norwich Historical Society, Wu demonstrates the best of volunteerism. According to Sward, “Serena is an intelligent young woman defined by her consistency and high character.”

Jacobick has fully immersed himself in all aspects of life at Norwich Free Academy – academics, leadership, student life, and athletics. “Alex is a consistent leader with a charismatic approach,” says Sward, “but most importantly he is a humble man.”

Both students were presented and congratulated at NFA’s Board of Trustees meeting, Tuesday, May 15.
