1. Man Charged With Threatening Norwich Mayor On Social Media: PD (patch.com) — Norwich residents are learning more about an arrest tied to online threats allegedly directed at Mayor Swarnjit Singh, who is noted as having been born in India. Police say a New London man was charged with second-degree threatening and intimidation based on bigotry or bias after investigators traced several social media comments referencing the Norwich mayor. Authorities obtained a warrant and held the suspect on a $5,000 bond while court details remain pending.

2. Yantic fire reinstatement stalled as budget, safety tensions rise (norwichbulletin.com) — Norwich residents will get a chance on July 6 to weigh in on an ordinance aimed at protecting and reinstating the Yantic Volunteer Fire Department and other volunteer companies. The proposal, emerging amid tense budget debates, would keep volunteer departments distinct under a citywide umbrella and limit cuts to their funding and equipment.

3. Norwich won't need to reduce school budget due to extra $9M from state (norwichbulletin.com) — Norwich will not have to cut its proposed school budget after more than $9 million in one-time state aid closed a looming gap for the 2026-27 fiscal year. City leaders say the money lets them fully fund education for now, but warn the temporary funds don’t fix long-term budget challenges or guarantee similar support in future years.

4. Person extricated from vehicle after crash on I-395 in Norwich (wtnh.com) — Emergency crews in Norwich extricated a person from a vehicle after a crash Monday evening on I-395 North, temporarily shutting down the northbound lanes.
