New Details Released After 1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In Double Shooting In Norwich

NORWICH, CT — Police said Ronnie Narine, 46, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was shot and killed, and a 40-year-old Norwich woman is in critical condition after being shot.

At 11:53 a.m. Friday, Norwich Police Dispatch received several 911 calls regarding a disturbance in which witnesses described an abduction.

A witness followed a vehicle described as a black minivan out of the area, police said.

While following the vehicle onto Maennerchor Avenue, witnesses stated they heard gunshots, police said.

When Norwich Police Officers arrived on Maennerchor Avenue, they saw a man walking away from a black minivan who was detained and later released, police said.

At the vehicle, officers discovered Narine and a Norwich woman, both with gunshot wounds, inside the minivan, police said.

Narine died at the scene, and the woman is in critical condition in the hospital, police said. A third person inside the vehicle is a 51-year-old Myrtle Beach resident.

The investigation is ongoing, and evidence suggests this is a domestic violence-related incident, police said.

"This is an active investigation, no arrests have been made, and no charges filed with The States Attorney's Office at this time," police wrote.
