CT Pedestrian Killed When Car Runs Onto Sidewalk

A woman was killed when a car ran off the road and onto a sidewalk Thursday afternoon, state police said.

GRISWOLD, CT -- A pedestrian was killed when a driver struck her on a sidewalk in Griswold on Thursday, according to state police.

A BMW X5 was driving north at 3:44 p.m. on Main Street in the left lane when it crossed through the opposite lane and onto a sidewalk.

In addition to hitting a pedestrian, the car hit two street signs, a U.S. Post Office Building, and two parked cars.

The pedestrian, Bernice LaRochelle, 78, was declared dead at the scene of the accident, state police said.

The BMW's driver was taken to William Backus Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Two windows at the post office building were damaged in the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
