Former Norwich Firefighter Accused of Underage Sexual Assault Agrees to Plea Deal

The no-contest plea means the suspect does not admit guilt but accepts the punishment.

NEW LONDON, CT – A former longtime firefighter accused of sexually assaulting at least three underage girls in 2004 is facing four years in prison, the Norwich Bulletin reported.

Paul Barthelet, 45, of Jewett City agreed to a plea deal Friday, facing a sentence of four years and 20 years probation, according to the Norwich Bulletin. The no-contest plea means the suspect does not admit guilt but accepts the punishment.

Barthelet is a former firefighter with the Jewett City Volunteer Fire Department and the East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Department in Norwich, the Norwich Bulletin reported. He is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 14.
