'House For Rent' Scam Hits Norwich, Cops Say

"Those who are looking to rent should use caution when a landlord will not meet in person," according to Norwich Police.

NORWICH, CT — Norwich police are warning prospective renters that a "house for rent" scam has victimized some people in the area. The department has launched an investigation into the scam.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, officials write that someone is using a fake phone number and email address to snare unsuspecting tenants.

"The [fake ad] was originally posted on Craigs List as a house for rent," wrote police. "The fake owner is trying to get perspective renters to send them money to an out-of-state address and promises to FedEx the keys."
