Norwich Cancels Annual Fireworks Due to Lack of Funding
Don't firm up those Fourth of July plans just yet.

NORWICH, CT- The city has announced it will be canceling the annual Fourth of July fireworks display at the harbor this year.
The reason? Lack of funding.
According to the Norwich Fireworks Facebook page, the fireworks display has never been funded by tax dollars or any other city budgets but requires costs $35,000. This money is raised entirely through donations and fundraisers.

In order for Norwich to have a fireworks show in 2017, the city said it needs to start raising funds at this time. In lieu of the cancelled harbor show, the Norwich Fireworks Committee encourages people to visit Dodd Stadium for the home game of the Connecticut Tigers and their firework display on July 4.
The first chance for people to participate in raising funds will be an awards ceremony and auction at the Marina at American Wharf at One American Wharf, catered by Sunset Burger Company. An individual will be presented with the Ron D. Aliano Service Award for their service to the community at this event.
