NORWICH, CT — A suspect accused of stealing a car, fleeing from police, ramming a state police cruiser, then attempting a carjacking has been caught, according to a State Police Troop E Montville Facebook post. An off-duty trooper received a BOLO (be on the look out) on the radio regarding a stolen motor vehicle from Norwich.

The trooper spotted the car and attempted to stop it at Exit 11 on I-395 at Route 82. The suspect refused to stop and ran a red traffic light, according to police.

The trooper followed and got in front of the suspect's car to slow it down. However, the suspect intentionally rear-ended the trooper's cruiser and attempted to flee via the entrance ramp of I-395 southbound.

The trooper then got behind the suspect's vehicle and intentionally made contact with the vehicle to prevent flight. The suspect, a 28-year-old man, lost control of the car, which spun around and came to a rest in the gore area. The suspect then drove through the gore area onto Route 82 where he crashed into another car, disabling his stolen vehicle.

The suspect then fled on foot. The trooper deployed his K9 partner to catch the fleeing felon. The suspect ran up to an occupied car and attempted to carjack the driver, according to police. The trooper and the K9 then pulled the suspect from the vehicle after a "lengthy, aggressive struggle on the Exit 11 off ramp."
