Norwich Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty To Federal Gun Charge

A Norwich man with a state and federal criminal history pleaded guilty to a new, federal gun possession charge. He's out on bond.

NORWICH, CT—Federal authorities have charged convicted felon Elvin Gonzalez of Norwich with gun possession. The 38-year-old pleaded guilty before a U.S. District Judge in Bridgeport. Gonzalez was arrested by East Hartford police in early August for having a Charter Arms .44 caliber revolver and "a quantity of marijuana," according to a press release.

Gonzalez’s criminal history includes state convictions for sale of hallucinogen/narcotics and escape, and a federal conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In August 2005, he was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment for the federal firearm offense, US Attorney John H. Durham said.

When he is sentenced, Gonzalez faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison. And while there's no sentencing date set, he is out on $50,000 bond.
