Norwich Council Meeting Interrupted in Defense of Fire Department
Monday's meeting was met with a number of interruptions in order to defend the department's chief against one of their own.

NORWICH, CT- Monday’s City Council meeting agenda was interrupted by aldermen to make public statements in defense of the central city paid fire department, The Day reported.
Aldermen rose to the department’s defense in response to recent public criticism by former Mayor Peter Nystrom and council President Pro Tempore, according to The Day. Chief Kenneth Scandariato was publicly criticised by both men, with Nystrom accusing him of concealing budget information and calling the department inflated for the area served.
Mayor Deberey Hinchey and three aldermen read or made statements in Scandariato’s defense, calling for a “point of personal privilege,” The Day reported. They called the chief a professional city employee, and denounced what they referred to as Nystom’s erroneous statements.
