Norwich Man Admits to Role in Planned Staged Car Crashes

He faces up to 20 years when sentenced in the fall.

NEW HAVEN, CT- A Norwich man pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal charge of conspiring to stage about 50 car crashes, Fox 61 reported.

Authorities said Carlins Claixte, 32, conspired with others to stage crashes and fraudulently collect insurance money between 2011 and 2014, according to Fox 61. Many of them were single car-crashes on remote roads with no real witnesses.

The suspects then filed fraudulent property damage and injury claims with different car insurance companies and collected $10,000 to $30,000 per incident, as reported Fox 61. Calixte faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 30.
