Norwich Man Charged After Abandoning His Cat In Middletown: PD

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Norwich man confessed to abandoning his kitten in front of the Sports Hall of Fame in Middletown, according to police.

Police posted images of the cat and the man who abandoned her on the department Facebook page. The kitten had been left in front of the building around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and wasn't found until the next morning.

A witness called police and said that Thomas Bernier, 65, was the man in the surveillance photo, police said. Bernier earlier had gone to the Waterford Humane Society and attempted to surrender the cat there.

Bernier met with police and officially surrendered his cat to Middletown Animal Control. He was charged with cruelty to animals.
