Norwich Man Sentenced For Drug, Gun Crimes: Feds

A Norwich man was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for gun and drug crimes, according to prosecutors.

NORWICH, CT — A Norwich man was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for gun and drug crimes, according to a statement from Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Dwayne Johnson, 46, will also serve four years of supervised release.

According to prosecutors, Johnson, who had previously been convicted of several felonies and was prohibited from possessing guns, possessed two 12 gauge shotguns, shotgun shells, and quantities of cocaine and marijuana in June 2017.

Members of the Waterford and Town of Groton police departments executed a state search warrant in June 2018 at Johnson’s former home in Waterford and seized approximately 200 grams of fentanyl, approximately 100 grams of cocaine, smaller quantities of crack cocaine and heroin, items used to process and package narcotics, 24 cell phones, more than $11,000 in cash, and a loaded .45 caliber handgun.

Johnson later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance.

In August 2019, while he was on released on bond, Johnson was arrested after a shooting at his Norwich home. Law enforcement searched the home and found approximately 105 grams of cocaine and a quantity of fentanyl.

Johnson has been detained since that date.
