NORWICH, CT — A Norwich man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for dealing drugs on the dark web and gun crimes, according to a statement from Leonard C Boyle, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Barry Duclos, 43, will also serve three years of supervised release.

According to prosecutors, Duclos operated a vendor page on the dark web called "Dream Market" between September 2017 and February 2018. Using the alias 1NOLEFB1, Duclos advertised the sale of fentanyl analogues on Dream Market.

He then used the U.S. Mail to ship fentanyl analogues to customers who paid for the drugs using Bitcoin. A 39-year-old man in Tennessee fatally overdosed in September 2017 after using cyclopropyl fentanyl he ordered from Duclos, according to prosecutors.

Duclos was arrested on a federal criminal complaint in February 2018. A search of his home at the time of his arrest revealed a YHM rifle with multiple magazines, two of which were extended magazines.

The gun was loaded with a round in the chamber. Investigators also seized fentanyl and carfentanil from the home, along with a computer Duclos used to access Dream Market, according to prosecutors.

Duclos was convicted in state court in February 2001 of sale of narcotics and, in March 2017, of third-degree larceny. It is against federal law for a person convicted of a felony to possess a gun or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

In July, a jury found Duclos guilty of seven counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl analogues; one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and carfentanil; one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon; and one count possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Duclos has been detained since his arrest.
