Norwich PD Receives State Funding For New Police Radios

State Representative Kevin Ryan (D-139th) made the announcement Tuesday.

NORWICH, CT — The Norwich Police Department will receive $500,000 from the state to help pay for a new department radio system, state Rep. Kevin Ryan (D-139th) announced Tuesday.

"These funds will help advance the city’s public safety communications system," said Ryan in a statement about the State Bond Commission approval. "The district will benefit with this assistance to upgrade the antiquated police radio system, ensuring both our citizens and officers are safe."

A $500,000 grant-in-aid has been approved to replace the existing police radio system with
a modern digital system.

"Residents and legislators have been working persistently to gather funds to upgrade the police radio system," Ryan added. "This investment is crucial to streamlining communication between officers and police headquarters. I am grateful to see funding for this vital project approved.”

A $248,780 grant has also been passed to finance alterations, renovations, and technology
equipment at various Technical Education and Career Schools.

"The funding for both the projects will significantly boost Norwich’s infrastructure to further
facilitate a safer environment and equip our children with resources to succeed," said Ryan.

The grant-in-aid was approved at the State Bond Commission Meeting held on December 11 at
the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
