Norwich PD: Woman Threatened Man With Fake Gun

NORWICH, CT - A Norwich police officer's quick thinking deescalated a potentially life-threatening situation. Police said that Officer Matthew Seidel was dispatched to an address Sunday and was confronted by a female pointing a gun at a male.

Seidel heard the female discharging the gun and immediately recognized the sound of a Co2 pellet gun.

He used a Taser to get the female to drop the gun, police said. The female was taken into protective custody and transported to Backus Hospital for treatment.

"Officer Seidel's quick thinking and the ability to recognize the firearm was a pellet gun should be commended," police said in a Facebook post. "It is extremely difficult to determine by looking at the pellet gun that it is not a real firearm... We are thankful that Officer Seidel was able to remedy this situation safely."
