Norwich Public Schools Grants to Expand Farm-to-School Opportunities
With the help of a sizable grant, Norwich Public Schools will increase their farm-to-school offerings.

NORWICH, CT- After recently receiving two sizeable grants, Norwich Public Schools will be expanding their farm-to-school produce options and other aspects of their food programs, The Day reported.
The district received a $42,100 state Department of Agriculture's Farm Viability Grant for Thomas Mahan School, which will go towards purchasing a new external freezer and refrigerator to store local farm produce, according to The Day. Norwich also received four grants from the state Department of Education's Fruit & Vegetable Program, a total of $70,886.
The grants were awarded to the John B. Stanton, Uncas, Veterans and Wequonnoc schools, The Day reported. The money will be used by the district’s food services department to hire a company that will bring fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to schools each day.
