Norwich Schools Honor Retiring Local NAACP President

As she looks ahead to retirement, Norwich schools look back on all her hard work.

Jacqueline Owens, retiring President of the NAACP’s Norwich branch, was honored in the auditorium of Kelly Middle School Thursday by Norwich public Schools, as reported by The Day.

Owens will be retiring in December and has been on a farewell tour of sorts, wherein she has been honored by local organizations, The Day reported. Present at the gathering was Board of Education Chairman Aaron Daniels, who remarked about the middle school’s auditorium being named after her.

Daniels listed some ways Owens has helped the Norwich school system, including co-founding the Norwich County Anti-Bullying Coalition, according to The Day. It was emotional for Owens, who even admitted to holding back some tears.
