Norwich Should Buy Former Scrapyard: Alderman

An alderman and mayoral candidate is urging the town to consider buying the property.

NORWICH, CT — Alderman and mayoral candidate H. Tucker Braddock is calling for the city to potentially buy the former Shetucket Iron and Metal Co. scrapyard.

The scrapyard closed last year as family disputed who owned it, according to the Norwich Bulletin.

Braddock argues that the city could redevelop the 3.6 acres that sits on the riverfront. The property is contaminated and is in a federally designated floodway.
