Norwich Suspect Dies Following Shootout With Police
"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death," said state police.
NORWICH, CT — Brandon Uzialko, a 25-year-old Norwich man sought by police for attempted murder, died Tuesday night after a shootout with a Norwich police officer, according to Connecticut State Police.
After exchanging gunfire with Norwich police at about 7 p.m. in the Greenville section of the city, Uzialko fled on foot and was found deceased "several hours later by troopers from the State Police Tactical Team (a.k.a. SWAT) in the area of 13 Prospect Street," wrote state police on Facebook.
State Police detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime division have taken over the investigation, at the request of the State’s Attorney’s Office. No other injuries were reported, and the name of the Norwich police officer has not been released.

Residents of the neighborhood had been asked to remain in their homes Tuesday while police searched for Uzialko, and lifted the shelter-in-place order later in the evening.

"All residents may proceed normally through the area," wrote Norwich police on Facebook. "It is asked that you use patience while multiple Law Enforcement and Judicial Agencies conduct their ongoing investigation in that area.
"Again there is no continued threat to the community and all residents in the Greenville section of Norwich may proceed normally."
Uzialko was sought by police in connection with an Oct. 21 home invasion on Quarto Road in Norwich where he stabbed the male victim multiple times. The victim survived.

Connecticut State Police Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Norwich. On October 24, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., police officers from the Norwich Police Department were searching for Brandon Uzialko who was wanted on an active arrest warrant for attempted murder and home invasion. During the search gunfire was exchanged between Uzialko and Norwich Police officers. Following the gunfire Uzialko fled from the area on foot.
Brandon Uzialko (age 25) was located several hours later by troopers from the State Police Tactical Team (a.k.a. SWAT) in the area of 13 Prospect Street and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the request of the State’s Attorney’s Office, State Police detectives from Eastern District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.
