Norwich Utility To Begin Replacing Lead Pipes: Report

It's estimated that there are at least 800 private water service lines in the city with pipes that contain lead.

NORWICH, CT — Norwich Public Utilities officials estimate that there are at least 800 private water service lines in the city with pipes that contain lead, according to The Norwich Bulletin. The pipes are not currently a cause for concern as drinking water is protected by corrosion inhibitors.

However, the utility company plans to begin replacing these pipes this summer and has received $600,000 from the state to replace 70 lines to private homes and businesses. The first phase will be completed by Labor Day with the goal of eliminating all lead pipes in the city in the next five years.
