Police ID Motorist Killed In Crash In Norwich

One woman suffered fatal injuries in the Thursday morning accident, which is still under investigation, according to police.

NORWICH, CT — The driver who died after a two-vehicle crash on Thursday has been identified as a local woman.

Police on Friday said the victim was Maria Cardoza, 66, of 150 Yantic St.

Lt. Steve Schmidt said police received a 911 call around 8:17 a.m. Thursday reporting a serious motor vehicle collision near 704 West Thames St.

First responders arrived and discovered a vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision with a heavy-duty wrecker, according to police.

Cardoza, who was in the vehicle, was taken to Backus Hospital, but she died, police said.

The operator of the wrecker was not injured, according to police.
