2 NYC Homicide Suspects Apprehended In Norwich: Police

NORWICH, CT — Two men wanted in connection with a Feb. 11 deadly shooting in Bronx, New York have been caught in Norwich, according to police.

Both are facing second-degree murder charges in New York, police said.

One suspect was captured earlier this month, while the second was taken into custody following a large-scale law enforcement operation on Clairmont Avenue Friday morning.

Lt. Kyle Besse said local police along with the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Connecticut State Police conducted the operation at 9 Clairmont Ave.

On March 4, local police were investigating an unrelated case when they came into contact with Zion Martinez, 19, of Bronx, New York. They learned he was the subject of two active felony warrants issued by the New York Police Department. One of the active warrants included a charge for second-degree murder, police said.

Martinez was taken into custody and charged locally with being a fugitive from justice, possession of a controlled substance, and interfering with an officer.

Local police spoke with New York detectives and learned Martinez was likely in Norwich with 19-year-old Anthony Caballero, who was also the subject of a New York warrant which includes a second-degree murder charge. The two men were wanted in connection with the Bronx shooting on Feb. 11, police said.

Law enforcement captured Caballero during Friday morning’s operation at 9 Clairmont Ave.

Caballero, of St. Augustine, Florida, was charged locally with being a fugitive from justice and interfering with an officer.
