Police Prevent Predawn 'Suicide By Cop'
An armed person inside a Holiday Inn room threatened to shoot police in an effort to commit 'suicide by cop.' Police got him to surrender.
NORWICH, CT — A man with a gun who was threatening "suicide by cop," was talked into surrendering by police. Police were called to the Holiday Inn on Laura Boulevard at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Norwich Police Sgt. Nicolas Rankin. The person was threatening police with a firearm hoping to force officers to shoot him, police said.
Police evacuated the people in the rooms on the floors above where the man was to try and "establish communication."
A little more than two hours after police arrived, at 5:50 a.m., the person surrendered. A gun was found in the room. Police said the person was taken to the hospital for a "emergency psychological evaluation."

Norwich Police thanked Connecticut State Police for help handling other calls while they were dealing with the incident and also thanked Holiday Inn staff and guests for being cooperative.
The person's name was not released. It's unknown what charges they will face.
