Tackling Student Debt Focus Of Norwich Seminar In February

The free event, "Yes. You Can Afford College and Minimize Student Debt," will be held at Three Rivers Community College.

NORWICH, CT — Three Rivers Community College will host a free seminar in February, "Yes. You Can Afford College and Minimize Student Debt," that will show students that there is a way for everyone to afford college and minimize their student debt. In some cases, student debt can be reduced to as little as $0, according to organizers.

The free seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, starting at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to run for an hour (The presentation will be approximately 40 minutes long, followed by 20 minutes of questions and answers.) All attendees will receive a resource guide to take home.

"'Yes. You Can Afford College and Minimize Student Debt' is for anyone who is considering attending public or private college to pursue a 2-year or 4-year degree," wrote organizers in a statement. "Parents, high school counselors, teachers, principals and others are also welcome."

The program will cover:

  • Reducing student debt, in some cases to as little as $0
  • Financial aid made easy
  • How to find scholarships and loans
  • Taking advantage of tax deductions
  • Budgeting to make the most of your savings

Real life examples will be used. FAFSA will be explained. Sample tax forms will be shown.

It will be presented by experts in the field of financial aid, taxes and personal finances – Kenneth Briggs with over 19 years of experience in Financial Aid, currently Acting Director of Financial Aid at Three Rivers Community College, and Edwin Muenzner, C.P.A., founder of the firm Edwin Muenzner C.P.A., LLC, and Professor of Accounting at Three Rivers Community College.
