Three Rivers Community College Offers Dental Assisting Program
The new non-credit program at the Norwich-based school has two parts, which combined total 290 course hours.

From Three Rivers Community College: NORWICH, CT — Three Rivers Community College is excited to introduce a new non-credit program: Dental Assisting. The first part of the program, Dental Assisting I, is a 130-hour course that introduces Dentistry and Dental Assisting as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. This career has an elevated projected growth rate over the next 10 years and prepares people to change their career to the dental profession.
In Dental Assisting I, students learn how to work in a dental practice and are taught topics including infection control, dental charting, preparing the patient, business administration procedures,and more. The first course is followed by Dental Assisting II, a 160-hour course that combines lectures and clinical work.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, “Employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 19 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Ongoing research linking oral health and general health will continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services. Dentists will continue to hire dental assistants to complete routine tasks, allowing the dentist to work more efficiently.”

Dental Assisting I will be held Mondays and Thursdays from January 4 through April 5. The deadline to register is December 28, 2017. Dental Assisting II runs from April 9 through August 31.
