In 2015, AVANGRID Companies Expanded CT Natural Gas Networks
SCG & CNG added 60 miles of main and two new towns to their service territories.
The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation (CNG) completed a series of projects in 2015 to bring natural gas to new neighborhoods and new customers.
“We worked hard over the last year to meet continuing robust demand for natural gas,” AvanGrid CEO James P. Torgerson said. “Customers in Connecticut and across New England recognize the value offered by this convenient, clean-burning and domestic fuel.”

In 2015, both companies added new service franchises to their territory maps. In October, CNG completed an 11-mile gas main extension that brings natural gas for the first time to the central Connecticut town of East Hampton. The following month, its sister utility SCG switched on the gas in a new 4-mile main serving Deep River, in eastern Connecticut. The companies also completed in 2015 major expansion projects in communities where had they previously offered service, including Branford, Farmington, Manchester and West Haven.
The ongoing expansion efforts in Connecticut support the goals of the state’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy, which seeks to convert 280,000 new natural gas heating customers statewide by 2023, among other goals.
