Amity Girls Volleyball Supports Smilow Cancer Center

Charity Volleyball game raises $1,000.

The Amity Girls Volleyball team once again participated in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness volleyball game at Amity High School. The Lady Spartans hosted the Lyman Hall Lady Trojans of Wallingford on Friday October 14th. All proceeds that evening from ticket sales at the door, a bake sale, a snack stand and private donations enabled the team to raise $1,000 for donation to the Smilow Breast Cancer Center at Yale.

In an ongoing effort to raise awareness, October has been named Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Amity girls wore special breast cancer awareness black/pink uniforms, pink shoelaces and even used pink volleyballs for the match. Each player played in honor of someone they knew who had some connection to breast cancer. The Lady Spartans came away with the 3-0 match win (25-19, 25-20, and 25-20) over Lyman Hall in a well spirited match. Amity Girls Volleyball thanks all who attended to support their cause.

Representing Amity Girls Volleyball were senior captains Jessica Malinconico, Dana Blydenburg and Caitlyn Strona who met with Dr. Anees Chagpar, Head Breast Surgeon for Smilow. Dr. Chagpar graciously accepted their donation and sincerely expressed how helpful every dollar donated is for research and development for the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Dr. Chagpar then gave the girls an extensive behind the scenes tour of the breast cancer section of Smilow Cancer Center.
