Correction: Amity Legend to be Honored Sept. 18

Former long-time Athletic Director Paul Mengold, 63, will have the high school's gymnasium named after him.

Amity legend and former long-time Athletic Director Paul Mengold, 63, will be honored Sept. 18 as the Amity High School’s gymnasium will be named after him, reports GameTimeCT.

The ceremony to change the name to the Paul D. Mengold Gym begins at 6:45 pm. Sept.18.

Mengold served 30 years as Amity’s athletic director and he spent 38 years at Amity, which began as a teacher.

GameTimeCT reports that Amity’s teams under Mengold won 45 state championships and 122 league titles.

Mengold told the sports website that the honor is “humbling.”
