Amity Regional HS Senior Receives Grant For Her Invention
Sophia Wang was awarded the funding from Hasbro as part of the toy company's "Ms. Monopoly" promotion.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — Sophia Wang, a senior at Amity Regional High School, was one of three young female inventors featured in a Hasbro promotional video for the toy company's new game, "Ms. Monopoly," the high school announced.
As part of the promotion, Wang received a grant of $20,580 to go toward improving the invention, a real-time sinkhole detection system.
In the video, which can be viewed below, Hasbro gifted Sophia with one of the first versions of the game, and inside the box was a letter announcing the company was awarding her the grant.

Wang is part of the Amity Regional High School’s Science Research Program and has been working on her invention for the past three years.
"Sophia realized the need for a better detection system during her freshman year and has been working hard to engineer and improve her system ever since," school officials wrote in a statement. "Her invention has awarded her many opportunities including two trips to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair where just this past spring she earned first award; the ability to compete in the National Invention Convention this past year where she took first place for her grade level; and most recently an invitation to the Korea Science and Engineering Fair that is taking place this fall."
