Connecticut is experiencing a measurable shift in how people perceive the state, and the momentum is just beginning. In this engaging and thought-provoking session, Nyerick will explore how perception influences economic growth, talent attraction, tourism, and business development. Blending marketing insights, state initiatives, and real-world examples, this compelling conversation will examine the role we all play in shaping Connecticut’s narrative and future.
Nyerick is a prominent figure in Connecticut's marketing and tourism sector. As the Director of Statewide Marketing and Tourism at the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, she focuses on promoting the state's economic growth and tourism initiatives. Nyerick has been involved in various projects aimed at enhancing Connecticut's culinary and cultural appeal, including the creation of a pizza trail to attract visitors, and most notably the"CT Pizza Capital of the U.S." campaign that boldly claimed Connecticut has better pizza than New York, Chicago, Detroit, or New Jersey, and continues to fuel the debate to this day.
With a modest budget, Nyerick, former Connecticut Chief Marketing Officer Anthony M. Anthony, and the agency Adams & Knight turned a bold idea into a cultural phenomenon. The "CT Pizza Capital of the U.S." earned a coveted GOLD Effie Award, beating out some of the world’s largest agencies and destinations for the only Gold awarded in its highly competitive category. Widely regarded as the top global marketing award for “work that works,” the Effie Awards honor marketing that delivers the trifecta of breakthrough strategy, exceptional creative, and tangible business results.
Nyerick notes, "I’m a creator, storyteller, and dreamer of big dreams. Entrepreneurship is in my DNA, and my grandparents on both sides of the family ran businesses, including a music shop, restaurant, and jewelry store." Nyerick carried on the family tradition at the age of 18 when she opened the yoga studio named “Bloom," which won "Best in Connecticut" for two consecutive years. Other business endeavors included an upscale organic spa, a wellness co-op, and a freelance graphic design company.
Nyerick's fifteen years of small business ownership provided what Nyerick notes, "an invaluable, hard-knocks education in brand development, marketing, design, and creative problem-solving." She is passionate about finding and telling meaningful stories, building memorable brands, and creating interesting designs.
