Gas Prices In Orange Are Climbing Again: Here's The Price At Your Pump

Connecticut's gas average has surpassed $4.21 a gallon amid renewed Iran tensions. Here's what Orange drivers are paying at local stations.

ORANGE, CT — Gasoline prices in Orange and across Connecticut are rising again, pushed higher by renewed conflict in the Middle East that has rattled global oil markets and sent pump prices to their highest levels in months, according to the latest data from AAA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Connecticut's statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded reached $4.215 as of July 28, according to AAA — up from approximately $4.10 one week ago and roughly 23 cents above the month-ago average of about $3.98. Compared to a year ago, when the state average was $3.12, Connecticut drivers are now paying more than $1.09 more per gallon. The surge follows the July 8 breakdown of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, which sent crude oil prices climbing sharply and has continued to exert upward pressure on pump prices throughout the region.

The state's current average of $4.215 exceeds the national average of $4.099 tracked by AAA as of July 28 by about 12 cents. The EIA, which released fresh weekly retail fuel price data Tuesday, put the national average for regular gasoline at $4.096 per gallon for the week ending July 27 — up nearly 10 cents from $4.001 the prior week and up 97 cents from the same period a year ago. The EIA placed the New England regional average, which includes Connecticut, at $4.067 per gallon for the week ending July 27, up from $4.011 the week before and up more than a dollar from a year ago.

Orange falls within the New Haven-Meriden metropolitan area as tracked by AAA. That metro's current regular gas average stands at approximately $4.235, according to the most recent data — slightly above both the statewide average and the national figure of $4.096 reported by the EIA for the week ending July 27.
