Orange's Weekend Roundup: A Library Craft Night, A Historic Museum And A 1700s House Tour

ORANGE, CT — It's a quieter weekend on Orange's arts calendar, but what's on offer has real character: a library that turns into a craft party after dark, a museum that only unlocks its upstairs exhibit once a month, and a 300-year-old house you can only get into on Sundays. Here's where to go Thursday through Sunday.

• Library Goes All-In Thursday Night: Pop-Up Book Sale and Tween Book Bedazzling — Thursday, Sept. 24. The Friends of the Library run a pop-up book sale in the basement from 4 to 7 p.m., while upstairs in the Craft Room, tweens can bring a book with a plain cover and bedazzle it from 6 to 7 p.m. Venue: Case Memorial Library, 176 Tyler City Road.
• The Academy Museum, Including the Monthly Upstairs Exhibit — Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Orange Historical Society's museum is open every Saturday, but this one is a bonus: since it's the fourth Saturday of the month, the second-floor S.N.E.T. telephone-history exhibit opens alongside the regular first-floor displays. Venue: Orange Historical Society, 605 Orange Center Road.
• Bryan-Andrew House Museum Tours — Sunday, Sept. 27, 1 to 3 p.m. Step inside a saltbox home dating to the early 1700s, one of the oldest structures in town and a National Register-listed landmark, for a $4 guided tour. Venue: Orange Historical Society, 131 Old Tavern Road.

No major concerts or gallery openings landed in Orange's own window this time around, but between a craft night, a once-a-month museum wing and a house older than the country itself, there's still a reason to get out this weekend. Bring the $4 for the Bryan-Andrew House tour, and check the library's Craft Room schedule if the tweens want a repeat visit.
