Next week at the Smoking Gun Research Agency

Next week we’re celebrating “Secret Society Week” with four back-to-back events taking place at our Research Center, at the Torrington Library, and even online! This is your chance to learn about the history of these mysterious organizations, and ask the questions you’ve always wondered about (but we can’t promise the answers wont scare you!).

It all starts on Wednesday, January 25 as our Coffee Talk topic covers the Skull & Bones society at Yale University. SGRA Director and investigative reporter Jon Nowinski will share his research on the subject through a slideshow and video clips and will answer questions.

The next day on Thursday, January 26, the SGRA will be presenting a program at the Torrington Library on the history of Secret Societies. This program is the first in the new 2012 series “Histories Mysteries” being presented in conjunction with the SGRA and the Torrington Library over the next year.

Friday, January 27 Skull & Bones will again be in the spotlight as the subject for our Friday Feature Movie Night when we show “The Good Shepherd,” a 2006 Hollywood film starring Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Robert De Niro, William Hurt, a other great actors. This film is based around the Skull & Bones direct connections with the creation of the Central Intelligence Agency.

And if that’s not enough chances to talk secret societies, on Saturday, January 28 at 9:00pm EST we’ll be hosting an online chat with Jon Nowinski answering your questions about Skull & Bones or other secret societies. He’ll discuss the reasons why these societies gain such notorious reputations, and whether or not there is really anything to be concerned about in regards to them.
