"Residents are reminded that there are many species of wildlife here in Orange including Deer, Fox, Coyote, Fisher Cat and Bobcat. These wild animals tend to be shy and avoid human contact. Predatory species may be harmful to small domestic pets. Always scan the area before letting pets out, especially at night," police said.
"If you do encounter a wild animal, simply make loud noises to scare the animal away. Never approach a wild animal or try corner them. Females with offspring nearby may become protective and take an aggressive posture. If the animal does not retreat, go in the opposite direction, head indoors and contact police," police said. As open spaces diminish, the chances of these types of encounters increase. This may result in aggressive response."
