BREAKING: Verdict Issued in Trial of Orange Man Accused of Murdering His Mother
Timothy Granata, 24, of Orange, had his fate decided by three judges on Monday in Milford.

A three-judge panel ruled Monday afternoon that Timothy Granata, 24 of Orange, is not guilty by reason of mental defect in the murder of his mother, Dr. Claudia Dinan Granata, in 2014, the New Haven Register reports.
Timothy Granata will be sent to Whiting Forensic Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital for tests.
Last week the accused’s psychiatrist Madelon Baranoski, psychiatry professor at Yale School of Medicine, testified that the accused’s family was concerned he was suicidal, according to a previous report by the New Haven Register.

Granata, 24, of Orange is accused of allegedly stabbing his mother to death last year. Granata chose to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
Police found Claudia Dinan Granata in her Orange home while the accused was found walking on a nearby road with a Bible covered in blood.

According to the doctor’s testimony, Timothy Granata was in a “psychotic frenzy” on the day of the murder. He had a history of mental health issues dating back to college, and he acted paranoid, the Register has reported.
He also blamed his parents for his mental health issues and had stopped his medication, the Register reports.
