Bystanders and Orange Police Save a Man Who Collapsed
After a road race participant collapsed Saturday he received CPR by bystanders and an Orange police officer administered an AED.

A West Haven man, 68, who was a participant in the Peck Place Panther Pounce 5k Road Race on Saturday, received quick medical attention after collapsing on the course, Orange police said Monday.
The man, whose name is being withheld by police, collapsed in the area of Treat Lane and Ann Rose Drive.
A registered nurse who was running the race witnessed the collapse and immediately started CPR along with another bystander.

Orange Police Lieutenant Max Martins, who was assigned to the race also responded and affixed an automated external defibrillator (AED).
All Orange patrol cars are equipped with the device.

Lt. Martins administered one shock through the AED and CPR was continued. The victim soon began to breathe on his own and an ambulance arrived to transport him to the hospital.
“The rapid application of CPR by two bystanders and the application of an AED by police undoubtedly contributed to the man’s survival,” Orange police said on their Facebook page.
