Cause Of Significant Orange Restaurant Fire Released: Report

Firefighters from several towns battled the blaze Saturday night.

ORANGE, CT — More details have been released concerning the Saturday night fire at TGI Fridays at 348 Boston Post Road. The Orange Volunteer Fire Department said at 7:44 p.m. the OVFD responded for the Sprinkler Activation Alarm.

"While in route to the call dispatch updated responding units that there is now a smoke condition in the building and they are getting multiple calls. Upon arrival the building was found full of smoke and the sprinklers were going off," the Fire Department said.

Crews found a lot of smoke and heat inside the kitchen area but could not see much fire, fire official said. Crews on the roof cut open a hole and that's where they found the fire.

"It was an extensive operation and was called under control approximately 2 hours after the initial dispatch. No injuries were reported. A huge thank you to the Woodbridge Fire Dept, West Shore Fire Dept, and Milford Fire Dept who were called in as mutual aid to help assist," the Orange Volunteer Fire Department said.

The New Haven Register reports that the fire was ruled accidental and as a result of a malfunction that began in the kitchen exhaust hood. Crews are working to cleanup the restaurant now. The business suffered extensive smoke damage and it's unclear when it will reopen, the Register adds.
