Developer Tries Again To Get Affordable Housing Project Approved In Orange: Report
A public hearing will be held tonight, Tuesday, July 18. The plans were filed under the state's affordable housing statute.

ORANGE, CT — A public hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight (TUESDAY, JULY 18) at Town Hall on a proposal by a developer to construct an affordable housing application at 65-69 Marsh Hill Road and 0 and 15 Salemme Lane, the New Haven Register reports.
The project has been filed under the state's affordable housing statute, which allows developers to circumvent local zoning laws. Town's are essentially powerless to deny these projects, and if they do, they often spend significant sums of money on legal fees and end up losing on appeal.
Eighteen of the 60 proposed units would be classified as affordable according to state guidelines. The town's Plan and Zoning Commission denied the first application and the developer has made changes to try and address concerns, the Register reports. The project also includes a commercial component too.
