Energy Efficiency Fund Announces Statewide Student Contest
eesmarts™ contest fosters ethic of energy awareness among students

The Energy Efficiency Fund, in partnership with Connecticut Light & Power and The United Illuminating Company, is proud to announce the seventh annual eesmarts student contest for grades K-12 students.
The eesmarts program is an energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy education initiative that annually invites Connecticut students to showcase their “energy smarts” about saving energy, efficient and renewable energy technologies and sustainability through various media forms.
“Engaging Connecticut students early about energy conservation in forums like this not only improves our energy future but helps develop tomorrow’s future scientists, engineers, problem solvers and green workforce,” said Richard W. Steeves, Chairperson, Energy Efficiency Board. “It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm, creative writing and innovative ideas that the next generation has about using energy wisely.”

The eesmarts contest asks students to answer grade-level specific prompts regarding efficient and renewable energy technologies in the form of a poster, limerick, news article, song lyrics, essay, speech, report, play or TV script and an open letter format.
Two new categories for 2011 include asking grade K-2 students to design an energy-saving poster and high school students to write a letter to their principal about what students can do to address climate change in their high school.
