Eugene J. Haeckel, 94, of Orange, passed away on March 25, 2025
Eugene was a proud U.S. Army veteran who dedicated twenty years to military service, beloved husband, and father.
Eugene J. Haeckel, U.S. Army retired, 94, of Orange, passed away on March 25, 2025. Eugene was born on June 12, 1930, in New Haven, CT to the late Thomas and Mabel Haeckel.
Eugene was a proud U.S. Army veteran who dedicated twenty years to military service, bravely serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Throughout his distinguished career, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Silver Star, two bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal in recognition of his valor and dedication. In his spare time, he found great joy in playing bridge with his wife and friends at the Orange Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Haeckel, his three daughters, Marion Katuzny (John - deceased), Deborah Haeckel and Barbara Haeckel (Chun); (5) grandchildren, Carol Ryon (Robin), Jennifer Michi (Robert), Robert Katuzny (Ashley), Kevin Katuzny (Jennifer) and Katie Katuzny (Ninette) and (6) great grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Finn, Arden, Hudson and Asher. He is also survived by his three stepchildren, Joyce Meyers, David Haglund (Lisa) and Cynthia Pirog (Steve), and step-grandchildren, Lauren, Cassidy, Benjamin, Theodore and Jeffery. He was proceeded in death by Curtis and Scott.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11am at Holy Infant Catholic Church 450 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT 06477. Military honors will immediately follow at the church. A private internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.
