The Amity High School theater department presents its fall play "Bang Bang You're Dead" by William Mastrosimone. This is a powerful play that deals with violence and bullying in high schools. The play was written in 1998 just months before the Columbine massacre. It is based on the shooting at Thurston High School in Springfield Oregon where fifteen year old Kip Kinkel Murdered five people and wounded thirty two others in a school shooting. Bang Bang You're Dead was first directed and performed by students and faculty of Thurston High School. In fact some of the students actors in the production had been wounded by Kinkel.
The play is a part of the Amity School Advisory initiative on bullying. Eery student will attend the play during the school day from December 7th to December 10th. After each showig the students and actors will participate in a talk back with the cast and crew. There will be one public perfromance for the community on December 10th at 8pm at the Amity High School Auditorium. Admission is free but donations will be accepted to the Pettite Family Foundation. A non for profit foundation whose funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.

While there is no strong language, the play does depict violent images and may not be suitable for children 10 and under.
