UPDATED: Fire Marshal Closes Popular Restaurant (temporarily)

Fire Marshal Tim Smith made the difficult decision to temporarily close TGI Fridays, 349 Boston Post Road, because of repeated problems with carbon monoxide from an unknown source.

On Saturday, several employees went to the hospital because they weren't feeling well and a couple of them showed signs of carbon monoxide exposure.

The fire department was called out at 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, and again at 10:47 p.m.

The evening call resulted in zero CO readings but, when Smith visited the restaurant at lunchtime on Monday, his meter showed elevated levels of the deadly gas.

Smith closed the restaurant until the CO situation is solved.

"I hate to do this to them because it is a busy time of year, and they are losing business," Smith said. "But it is a public safety issue. They are right on top of it, and quickly got people in there to fix it."

TGI Fridays now has contractors working on the HVAC system and other equipment that could be causing the problem.

Smith said he will be at the restaurant first thing in the morning (Tuesday) and if the air is clear, it should be open for lunch.
