Grant to Imporve Downtown Poughkeepsie Residence

A walk down Rose Street in Poughkeepsie will be a bit brighter and nicer thanks to a $63,500 grant awarded to Community Housing Innovations, Inc. (CHI). The grant, awarded by Hudson River Housing, Inc. through New York State’s Main Street Program, will allow CHI to make several exterior improvements to its 120-year-old multi-unit residence at 8 Rose Street.

“CHI prides itself in being a good neighbor,” said Alexander H. Roberts, Executive Director. “This grant allows us to make improvements that will benefit both the residents of 8 Rose Street and the community.”

The residence houses up to 25 individuals, some of whom are previously homeless and may require social service support provided by CHI case managers.

The building will receive multiple exterior upgrades, including upgrading the façade, repairing the front porch, and installing a new porch roof, gutters and downspouts. CHI will use its own funds to replace the driveway, fulfilling a match required by the Main Street Program.

Work on the building is expected to begin in spring 2014 with an anticipated completion 6 months afterward.
