Here's How Much Unwanted Prescription Medication You've Turned In

The Orange Police Department is reminding residents that they can continue to drop off unwanted prescription medication.

In July of 2018, in partnership with BOWDAAC, we installed a prescription drug drop box in our lobby. The goal of this project was to give people a place to get rid of their unused/unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications that didn't include throwing them in with municipal garbage or flushing them into the local water system.

We also wanted to prevent people from 'stockpiling' old medicines where children can get access to them, or where they could be taken accidentally.

After six months of placement in our lobby, the box collected 129 pounds, 6 ounces of unwanted/unused medicines.

As a reminder for the community, the box is available 24/7/365. You do not have to interact with any police personnel to use the box.

We will continue to participate with the DEA 'drop off' days at CVS twice per year.
