John Rowland Trial Heads to Jury

Jury began deliberations Thursday and will continue Friday morning.

Jurors in the John Rowland federal case deliberated part of Thursday and will continue to deliberate on Friday, the Hartford Courant reported.

Federal prosecutor Christopher Mattei argued in his closing statements that Rowland attempted to deprive voters of information about who is helping a candidate and steering an election.

Mattei summarized what jurors heard in previous days of the trial. He recounted how Mark Greenberg testified that he turned down Rowland’s consultation offer during his 2010 congressional bid.

He also reminded jurors of Brian Foley testified about how he and his wife Lisa Wilson-Foley wanted Rowland’s advisement during her bid for the U.S. House of Representatives 5th District seat and how he hired Rowland as a consultant through his nursing home company in order to keep his involvement in the campaign off the finance books.

Rowland’s lawyer Reid Weingarten argued in closing statements that the deal was Kosher and that Rowland did indeed provide Foley’s nursing home company with advice, according to the Connecticut Mirror.
