Kayaker From Orange Drowned In Lake Quonnipaug Sunday: Reports

A 33-year-old man drowned after his kayak capsized in the Guilford lake as he was trying to retrieve a lost paddle, per reports.

GUILFORD, CT — A 33-year-old Orange man drowned in Lake Quonnipaug Sunday afternoon after his kayak capsized, according to the state, Department of Environmental Energy and Protection.

Guilford police posted to Facebook that a section of Durham Road near the lake would be closed for several hours.

According to local media, the man stood in the kayak to retrieve a lost paddle when the craft capsized.

Mutual aid was provided by Branford and Madison fire departments, South Fire District and DEEP.

The Guilford Fire Department Dive Team found the man, gave him CPR and then transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to WFSB.

The man was not wearing a life vest, per reports.
