Ladystar Cleaning Services Teams Up With The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts For Their 1st Annual Book Drive / Book Swap

Ladystar Cleaning Services, owned and operated by Cheryl and Mark Peckham in Hamden, have teamed up with the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden who is holding their 1st Book Drive / Book Swap. “Ladystar Cleaning Services have been a large supporter of our Read for Power Book Swap by donating over a hundred and fifty books so far and still collecting at places like Randall’s Restaurant and Bar in West Haven, one of their clients,” said Shihan Frank Ciarleglio, the instructor at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts.

Ciarleglio came up with this idea of collecting slightly used books for the Academy’s Read for Power Book Swap when he accompanied his daughter and her class to New Haven Reads. “I thought that New Haven Reads did such a great job with the children on the school trip and I learned about how they help the community and I wanted to get involved to help spread the word and support them,” Ciarleglio said.

So Ciarleglio designed a program that will not only help to collect books for New Haven Reads but also help the part of the community that he is involved in by offering his students, their family and friends the opportunity to get involved by donating books for New Haven Reads . Ciarleglio’s goal is to also help empower his students, their family and friends by being able to swap out their books and bring home new reading materials for themselves and their family. “The Read for Power Book Swap Program is based on some of the same principles as New Haven Reads, helping to bring reading materials to the local and neighboring communities. We are expecting to collect many more books than we give out and all of those extra books will go directly to New Haven Reads to support their efforts,” Ciarleglio said.

Ladystar Cleaning Services, Randall’s Restaurant and Bar of West Haven, along with the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts will be collecting books from now until April 16, 2015. The Academy will be holding their Read for Power Book Swap on Friday April 17, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All donations can be dropped off at Randall’s Restaurant and Bar located at 236 Platt Avenue, West Haven or at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, 1890 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden Connecticut 06514.
