Milford Hospital Offer Free Health Screening

Milford Hospital will offer FREE Alpha-1 Screening Tests on Monday, November 17th from 5:30pm -7:30pm

Alpha-1, also known as Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, is a genetic disorder that is passed on by parents to their children. The condition results in low levels or no levels of protein in the blood which can cause serious lung and or liver disease. With an estimated 90,000 Americans living with undiagnosed Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, the disorder may go undetected for years. Those living with it may not show any signs or symptoms, therefore early diagnosis is critical in maintaining and improving a person’s health. On Monday, November 17th, 2014, Milford Hospital will offer a free Alpha -1 screening. The test is a simple finger stick and is a quick, painless and highly accurate detection too.

Alpha-1 screening may be recommended for people who have a family history of the disease or have any of the following medical conditions: COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma, Chronic or unexplained liver disease, chronic or frequent coughs.

The free screenings are made possible through the Milford Hospital Live Well Fund and will take place from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Milford Hospital located at 300 Seaside Avenue in Milford. An appointment is required, please call (203) 876-4004 to schedule.
