New Amity High School Principal Named

The district BOE has named a new principal.

Amity Regional School District Board of Education has appointed Anna Mahon as the new Amity Regional High School principal.

She is currently serving as the high school’s associate principal and has worked at the school since 2000.

Mahon was selected from a pool of more than 25 candidates.

“Throughout the process, Anna demonstrated that she has the instructional knowledge, leadership capacity, and communication skills to more than effectively meet the instructional and cultural needs of Amity Regional High School,” stated Dr. Charles Dumais, Superintendent of the Amity Regional School District. “She is already a valuable member of our leadership team, and we are eager to see her in her new role as principal.”

Ms. Mahon started at Amity in 2000 as an English teacher, became the Chairman of the English Department in 2007, and was selected to serve as an Amity Regional High School Associate Principal in 2010. She has previously worked as an English teacher in both Stamford and Darien, Connecticut. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont, earning a double major in English and Psychology. Ms. Mahon has also earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary English Education from Boston University and a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. Ms. Mahon is a current member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and a past member of Pi Lambda Theta Professional Association in Education and Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Fraternity. Outside of her educational expertise, Ms. Mahon represented the United States Track and Field Team at the 2004 Olympics in the 4-kilo hammer throw.

“I am honored and excited to be the next Principal of Amity Regional High School,” stated Ms. Mahon upon learning she had been selected for the position. “Amity is in my blood, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to advance to the next level of leadership in a school and district that are so dear to me.”

Ms. Mahon will begin her role as Amity Regional High School Principal beginning July 1, 2015.
